Should you replace your Elyte Max Fast Fairway Woods with the Callaway Quantum Max Fast Fairway Woods?

Callaway's lightest fairway got a smaller head: 180 cc to 170 cc. The Elyte Max Fast is a 180 cc head sold on being built light throughout so moderate swing speeds can move it. The Quantum Max Fast is 170 cc and Callaway calls it the lightest fairway wood it makes, light through head, shaft and grip, with high MOI and a shallow face said to get the ball up at moderate speeds. The lighter-is-easier pitch is the same; the head behind it is 10 cc smaller.

Almost nothing else moved. Same four lofts — 16°, 19°, 22° and 25°, a 3, 5, 7 and 9. Same 58.0° lie. Same 43.25" length. Both right and left handed. And the same stock shaft on both: the Mitsubishi Vanquish PL 40. When the shaft is identical, the shaft is not the reason to switch.

One thing the new head adds: Callaway lists an adjustable hosel on the Quantum Max Fast and lists none on the Elyte Max Fast. Callaway does not publish how many degrees that hosel covers, so we cannot tell you the range — only that one club is listed as adjustable and the other is not. Neither page lists a movable weight.

Price is where the comparison stops. Callaway published $349.99 for the Elyte Max Fast at launch. Callaway has not published a price for the Quantum Max Fast, so we have nothing to put in that column. We will not fill it with a retailer's listing.

Our read: the adjustable hosel is the only published gain, and it is a real one on a club aimed at players who often need more loft than the number on the sole. Everything else says stay: same lofts, same lie, same length, same shaft, smaller head, and no price you can compare against.
