Should you replace your Elyte Titanium Fairway Woods with the Callaway Quantum Ti Fairway Woods?

The 16.5° HL head is gone. Callaway lists the Elyte Titanium in three lofts — 15°, 16.5° and 18°, labelled 3, HL and 5. The Quantum Ti is listed in two: 15° and 18°, a 3 and a 5. If the reason you play the Elyte Titanium is that the 16.5° sits between a 3-wood and a 5-wood, the new generation does not replace it. That is the single most important line on this page.

The head is the same size either way: 170 cc on both, from Callaway's own pages. Same 56.0° lie, same 43.25" length, both right and left handed, and both listed with an adjustable hosel whose range Callaway does not publish on either club.

The Quantum Ti adds a movable weight; Callaway's Elyte Titanium page does not list one. That is a gain, with the caveat that it is listed as a weight rather than a track — Callaway states no track on the Quantum Ti, so this is not a sliding CG the way a Tour-style fairway offers.

The claims changed in an interesting direction. On the Elyte Titanium, Callaway credits a Tungsten Speed Wave tuned specifically to rescue strikes low on the face. On the Quantum Ti it says a full titanium body frees up weight moved to help ball speed and steady spin, and positions the club between the Max head's forgiveness and the Triple Diamond's player profile. The low-face rescue language is not repeated.

Callaway published $449.99 for the Elyte Titanium. It has not published a price for the Quantum Ti.

Our read: if you play the 15° or the 18°, this is an even trade with a movable weight thrown in and no price to judge it by. If you play the 16.5°, do not upgrade — buy a spare.
