Should you replace your G430 SFT HL Fairway with the PING G440 SFT HL Fairway?

Every number PING publishes about these two heads is identical except one. Same lofts — 16°, 19° and 22°. Same labels, a 3, 5 and 7. Same 56.5° lie. Same 43.0" length. Same ±1.5° adjustable hosel. Same single stock shaft, the ultralight PING ALTA Quick. Both right and left handed. The one number that moved is head volume: 188 cc to 193 cc.

Five cubic centimetres. That is the whole published difference between the G430 SFT HL and the G440 SFT HL.

What PING says about them differs more than what it measures. On the G430 SFT HL the claims are a larger draw-biased head that adds speed, height and carry, and a composite crown said to lower CG and lift MOI. On the G440 SFT HL the claims are a draw-leaning CG in a lightweight build to fight a slice, and the Free Hosel and Carbonfly Wrap crown credited with lower CG and added forgiveness. Those are the manufacturer's words about its own product, not measurements, and they are not a reason to change clubs.

Neither page lists a movable weight, so that row is empty on both sides.

PING publishes no price on its own site — the fairway pages show $0.00 and route you to a fitter — so we cannot tell you what either cost new, and we will not put a retailer's number in PING's column.

Our read: keep the G430 SFT HL. This is the clearest example in the category of a generation change that the published specs do not support. If you want to know whether the G440 head feels different, hit one — but there is nothing on PING's spec page that tells you it will.
