Should you replace your DARKSPEED MAX Fairway with the Cobra DS-ADAPT MAX Fairway?

You gain a 9-wood and Cobra stops publishing a movable weight. The DARKSPEED MAX is listed in 15.5°, 18.5° and 21.5° — a 3, 5 and 7. The DS-ADAPT MAX adds 24.5°, a 9-wood. For a player replacing long irons with lofted fairways, that is the reason to look. But the DARKSPEED MAX page lists a movable weight and the DS-ADAPT MAX page lists none. We cannot tell you Cobra removed it — only that Cobra published it on one club and not on the other. Either way, you cannot plan a fitting around a weight the maker does not document.

The club also got more upright and slightly longer. Lie goes 57.7° to 58.5°, length 43.0" to 43.25". Nearly a degree of lie with the same lofts is a real aim change, not a rounding difference, and it points the new head further left at address. The adjustable hosel widens from ±1.5° to ±2°.

Head volume is published on one side only: 177 cc for the DS-ADAPT MAX, nothing for the DARKSPEED MAX. So we cannot tell you whether the head grew or shrank, and we are not going to estimate it.

Stock shaft moves from a UST LIN-Q M40X Red 5 to a True Temper Denali Red 50. Both right and left handed.

Cobra's claims narrowed. On the DARKSPEED MAX: a slightly oversized, low-profile head sold on forgiveness and easier turf interaction. On the DS-ADAPT MAX: tunable draw bias plus high stability, for players who want the ball turning left. The second is a more specific promise, and it lines up with the 0.8° of extra lie.

Our read: worth it only if you want the 9-wood or you want a fairway that sets up more closed. If you use the DARKSPEED MAX's movable weight, do not upgrade blind — Cobra does not document one on the replacement.
