Should you replace your DARKSPEED X Fairway with the Cobra DS-ADAPT X Fairway?

Same four lofts, 1.3° more upright. Cobra lists both the DARKSPEED X and the DS-ADAPT X in 15°, 16.5°, 18° and 21° — a 3, 3HF, 5 and 7. Not one loft moved. What moved is the lie angle: 56.7° to 58.0°. That is the largest single change on this page and the one most likely to show up in where the ball starts.

More than a degree of lie with identical lofts means the new head sets up differently at address and delivers differently through impact. It is not a marketing number; it is the number a fitter would check first. If you currently play the DARKSPEED X because it sits open enough for you, the DS-ADAPT X is the more upright club before anyone touches a hosel.

The rest is small. Length goes from 43.0" to 43.25". The adjustable hosel widens from ±1.5° to ±2°. Both are built right and left handed. Cobra publishes 177 cc for the DS-ADAPT X and no head volume at all for the DARKSPEED X, so we cannot tell you whether the head is bigger or smaller, and we will not guess.

On weights, Cobra states plainly that the DARKSPEED X has no movable weight and no track. The DS-ADAPT X page lists neither one way nor the other. That is a difference in what the maker documents, not a difference we can call a feature change.

Stock shafts move from UST LIN-Q M40X in Blue 6 and Red 5 to True Temper Denali in Blue 60 and Red 50. Two weights either way.

Cobra's pitch shifted from distance and stability on a higher flight (DARKSPEED X) to the versatile option, shotmaking with enough forgiveness for consistent long-game results (DS-ADAPT X). Cobra publishes no MSRP we can source for either.

Our read: this one turns on the lie angle. If 56.7° suits you, the upgrade fights you. If you have been fighting a push or a fade with the DARKSPEED X, the DS-ADAPT X is 1.3° of help you would otherwise pay a fitter to bend in.
