Our take Our assessment (based on published specs)
This is Garmin's upgrade question, and the price gap is huge: the R10 is $499.99 and the R50 is on sale at $4,499.99 (list $4,999.99). They are different kinds of device, not two versions of the same one.
The R10 is a small radar that sits 6–8 ft behind the ball and needs your phone. Garmin says it measures total spin outdoors, but indoors only with Titleist RCT balls, and spin axis is calculated.
The R50 uses three high-speed cameras, sits about 1.5 ft to the side of the ball and has its own screen: Garmin says it can run as a simulator on its own, and that it measures spin rate and spin axis. Club data needs tracking stickers on the club face (250 in the box; $29.99 for another 250). Garmin doesn't publish how far from the net it must be.
Both use the same Garmin Golf membership ($99.99 a year) for Home Tee Hero course play.
Our read: upgrade to the R50 only if measured spin indoors and a standalone setup without a phone are worth $4,000 to you. If you mostly want distances and club speed, the R10 already covers that. We haven't tested either unit; this is based on published specs.
