Our take Our assessment (based on published specs)
Both sit on the floor behind the ball, both cost under $600 on their official stores, and both work with the phone you already have. On the makers' own setup distances they need almost the same room: about 14 ft for the R10 and 14.5 ft for the MLM2PRO.
Where they really differ is spin, and what it costs to get it. Rapsodo says the MLM2PRO measures spin rate and spin axis with its cameras, but only with RPT golf balls ($69.99 a dozen on Rapsodo's store) and a Premium membership ($199.99 a year). Garmin says the R10's radar measures total spin outdoors; indoors it only does so with Titleist RCT balls, and spin axis is calculated.
Over five years with a plan, the R10 costs about $600 less ($999.94 vs $1,599.94 in our standard scenario), because Garmin's membership is half the price of Rapsodo's Premium. Without any plan, the gap is the $100 difference in hardware.
Our read: if you mostly hit into a net at home and care about spin numbers, the MLM2PRO's measured spin is the one reason to pay more, and only if you buy the balls and the membership. If you want the cheapest full setup, or you'll use it at the range, the R10 does the job for less. We haven't tested either unit; this is based on published specs.
