Our take Our assessment (based on published specs)
The R10 is a small radar you set 6–8 ft behind the ball; Garmin asks for about 14 ft of room length indoors. The Square Golf HE is a camera unit that Square Golf describes as built for indoor use. Square Golf doesn't publish a room length or say whether it works outdoors.
Spin is the main difference indoors. Garmin says the R10 only measures total spin indoors with Titleist RCT balls, and spin axis is calculated. Square Golf says the HE measures back spin and side spin with its own marking balls (three come in the box), and estimates it with normal balls.
Cost: the R10 is $499.99 and Garmin's optional membership is $99.99 a year ($999.94 over five years with it). The Square HE is $699 with no subscription fee, but Square doesn't publish prices for more marking balls, club markers or credits.
Our read: if you'll also use it at the range or outdoors, the R10 is the one built for that and it costs less. If it's going into a spare room and you want spin numbers without a subscription, the Square HE makes a stronger case on paper. We haven't tested either unit; this is based on published specs.
