Our take Our assessment (based on published specs)
Both are camera-based units and both makers say they measure spin. The R50 is on sale at $4,499.99 (list $4,999.99); the GC3 is $6,999.
The R50 has a built-in screen and Garmin says it can run as a simulator on its own; course play with Home Tee Hero needs the Garmin Golf membership ($99.99 a year). Club data needs tracking stickers (250 in the box, $29.99 for 250 more).
The GC3 uses Foresight's app and Premier software; core data views are free, and Foresight+ plans start at $199 a year (Course Pass for courses is $295 on top). Club data needs reflective markers ($50 per 192), and Foresight's own pages disagree on which club data needs the Gold plan.
Neither maker publishes a minimum room size or distance to the net for these two units.
Our read: on published facts the R50 costs $2,500 less up front and less per year for course play. The GC3's case isn't in the specs its maker publishes, so we can't make it for you. We haven't tested either unit; this is based on published specs.
