Should you replace your Qi10 Max Fairway with the TaylorMade Qi35 Max Fairway?

The head TaylorMade calls its most forgiving fairway got smaller: 200 cc to 190 cc. The Qi10 Max was sold as the highest-MOI fairway TaylorMade had built, on the back of that 200 cc head. The Qi35 Max is described the same way — most forgiving, largest head in its family — on a head that is 10 cc smaller than the club it replaces. Both numbers come from TaylorMade's own documents.

Every loft is half a degree stronger, and a 9-wood appears. Qi10 Max: 16°, 19°, 22° — a 3, 5 and 7. Qi35 Max: 15.5°, 18.5°, 21.5° and 24.5° — a 3, 5, 7 and 9. If you carry the Qi10 Max 5-wood at 19°, the Qi35 Max 5-wood is 18.5°, and unlike the Qi10 there is now a hosel to put that half degree back: TaylorMade lists a ±2° adjustable hosel on the Qi35 Max and lists none on the Qi10 Max sell sheet.

The shaft is the biggest change nobody announces. The Qi10 Max came with a Fujikura Speeder NX TCS 50. The Qi35 Max comes with a Fujikura AirSpeeder 25 — a 25-gram shaft. That is a different club in your hands regardless of what the head does, and it is the change most likely to alter your ball flight.

Length is unchanged at 43.25". TaylorMade publishes a 59.0° lie for the Qi10 Max and does not publish a lie angle for the Qi35 Max, so we cannot tell you whether it aims the same. Neither lists a movable weight.

Our read: this is a real upgrade path, but not for the reason it is sold on. The adjustable hosel and the 9-wood are things the Qi10 Max cannot do. The forgiveness claim is attached to a smaller head, and the 25-gram shaft means you are testing a new build, not a new head.
