Two indoor-outdoor radar units with club data, $100 apart: the Voice Caddie SC4 Pro is $599.99 and the Garmin Approach R10 is $499.99.
The SC4 Pro works on its own; the R10 needs your phone. Voice Caddie says the unit has its own display showing carry, speeds, launch and spin outdoors. The R10 needs an Android device or iPhone. The SC4 Pro also comes with an app driving range and complimentary E6 Connect with five courses; Garmin lists no included software.
Over five years, the plan decides the cost. With no paid plan listed, the SC4 Pro stays at about $600. The R10 is about $500 without a plan, but with the optional $99.99-a-year Garmin Golf Membership it's about $1,000 in our standard scenario.
Neither publishes a spin spec we can compare. Garmin recommends Titleist RCT balls for more reliable spin readings and says total spin is only measured indoors with them. The R10 needs about 14 ft of room against 15 ft.
Our read: for a unit that works without a phone and comes with courses, the SC4 Pro is the simpler buy. If you want the lowest price or your room is tight, the R10 fits, as long as you skip the plan. We haven't tested either unit; this is based on published specs.
