Two current flagship fairways with almost identical heads: 186 cc for the G440 MAX, 185 cc for the Qi4D, both in right and left hand, both within a quarter inch of each other at 43.0" and 43.25".
The hosel is where they separate. PING's sleeve moves ±1.5°; TaylorMade publishes ±2.0° on the Qi4D. Half a degree sounds like nothing until you pair it with how the two ranges are spaced. PING gives you 15°, 17°, 19°, 21° and 24° and labels them 3, 4, 5, 7 and 9. TaylorMade gives you 15°, 16.5°, 18°, 21° and 24° and labels the 16.5° a 3HL. Between the 3-wood and the 7-wood, PING steps 15/17/19 and TaylorMade steps 15/16.5/18 — so PING sits a degree stronger through that stretch, and the wider Qi4D sleeve covers more of the gap either way.
TaylorMade states the Qi4D has no weight track. PING doesn't publish a movable-weight field at all for the G440 MAX, so we leave that row empty rather than read it as a no.
PING publishes a 56° lie; TaylorMade doesn't publish lie for this head. TaylorMade lists the Qi4D fairway at $379.99. PING publishes no price on its own site and sends you to a fitter, so there's no like-for-like to give you.
PING claims the Free Hosel and Carbonfly Wrap crown lower CG and raise forgiveness. TaylorMade claims Twist Face tightens dispersion and the Speed Pocket protects ball speed low on the face. Both are manufacturer claims, neither is a measurement, and switching brands comes down to fit and feel that specs can't settle — hit both on a launch monitor.
Our read: keep the G440 MAX unless you want the wider ±2.0° sleeve, or you specifically want a 16.5° 3HL rather than PING's 17° 4-wood.
