Two years apart, same name, and the lofts barely moved: the 7-iron goes from 30.5° to 30°, the pitching wedge from 45° to 44°. Half a degree is inside what a fitter can bend, and the 7-iron is 37" in both.
The one real change is at the top of the set. The 2023 P·790 is published down to a 3-iron (19°); the 2025 set starts at the 4 (20.5°). If you play the 3-iron, the new set doesn't have it.
Both sets are forged multi-material heads with tungsten, both right and left handed, and both list the same stock graphite option. TaylorMade publishes a launch price of $1,399.99 for the 2025 seven-piece steel set; it doesn't publish one for the 2023 set any more, so we don't guess.
Our read: keep the 2023 P·790. On published specs this is the same club with one degree taken out of the wedge, and the only structural difference removes a club rather than adding one. If you want the 2025 set for the feel of a fresh face, that's a preference, not an upgrade — and it's the kind of thing you should feel in a fitting bay before you spend $1,400.
